Golf: OU finishes 8th despite Grauer's solid play

As the John Piper Intercollegiate concluded, the Ohio men’s golf team did not budge in the rankings but stayed in eighth place, as it had for the entirety of the tournament.

Senior Paul Grauer shot a six-under-par score of 66 in the final round to finish in third place. No other player for any team shot below a 69 in any round of the tournament.

With that score, Grauer finished the tournament eight strokes under his second-round total of 74. After moving from a tie for 18th place to third, Grauer contributed to lead the Bobcats to their best round in the tournament. After opening with rounds of 324 and 305, the Bobcats shaved another 15 shots off their score and finished with a round of 290. Ohio’s overall score of 919 was 27 shots behind first-place Bowling Green.

Only the B teams from Bowling Green (940) and Indianapolis (952) finished behind Ohio in the tournament.

Junior Byron Firestone, who played as an individual, finished in a tie for 19th place after shooting a 228. Host Bowling Green tied for first with Loyola University Chicago and won the tournament in a playoff.

Ohio does not play again until Oct. 3.
