We are Ohio, a bi-partisan coalition aiming to repeal Senate Bill 5, is informing students of their cause outside of Baker Center.
Issue 2 on the ballot of this November’s vote is the citizens’ veto of SB5. Ohio citizens’ votes could determine whether or not SB5 would remain in effect.
“This is democracy at it’s finest,” said Jacob Chaffin, a senior education major and intern for We are Ohio.
We are Ohio, along with representatives from the Obama campaign, are encouraging students to register or re-register for the upcoming vote in November. The groups are also asking students take be consciously aware of Issue 2 when they cast their vote.
Chaffin and his colleagues are encouraging students to vote no for Issue 2 on the November 8 ballot.
“We work with as many people as we can because we believe this (Issue 2 and SB5) is something that’s going to affect a lot of people,” said Chaffin.
SB5 takes away collective bargaining rights which affects public employees, making it harder for workers to bargain with their unions on safety and work issues said Sarah Williams, a senior political science major and Obama campaign intern.
Williams is working with We are Ohio because she said the Obama campaign in Ohio in interested in informing voters about SB5.
