A conference today will focus on support systems for students with disabilities who attend career centers, community colleges and universities.
The Southeast Ohio Disabilities Consortium and the Central/Southeast ABLE Resource Center will host the event all day today at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center.
The conference, titled “Building Regional Connections: Facilitating Student Transitions to Post-Secondary Education,” will include a keynote speaker, breakout sessions and a student panel.
The keynote speaker, Zach Waymer, is the director for economic advancement with the Ohio Board of Regents.
The student panel will include three student speakers who have learning or physical disabilities which have not prevented them from pursuing a degree, said Brian McCoy, an administrative associate for the Stevens Literacy Center.
The conference will conclude with regional roundtables, an opportunity for the different attendees to interact and discuss available services for students with disabilities.
“We hope to continue the conversations and maintain the connections we make at this workshop through a directory, web presence and online communication tools,” said Sharon Reynolds, the director of adult literacy at The Stevens Literacy Center, in a packet that will be distributed at the event.
