Ohio accepts bid to play in Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Bowl officials have confirmed that the Ohio Bobcats have accepted a bid to play Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Dec. 17 in Boise, Idaho.

The Potato Bowl, formerly the Humanitarian Bowl, has been held at Boise State University's Bronco Stadium since 1997. This will be Ohio's first appearance in the bowl and sixth bowl appearance.

"The Ohio University football program is extremely excited for this wonderful opportunity in Boise," Ohio coach Frank Solich said in a release. "For the past two years, this has been one of the premier bowl games for the Mid-American Conference. I couldn't be happier for our team and our 17 seniors, who have given so much to this program."

Utah State accepted the invitation to the bowl last week. The Aggies finished the regular season 7-5 and finished second in the Western Athletic Conference. They won five consecutive games to finish the season in order to become bowl eligible.

Ohio and Utah State have played once prior, with the Aggies winning the lone contest in 1994, 5-0. Utah State will be making its seventh bowl appearance.

This will be the Bobcats' third consecutive bowl appearance. They are still searching for their first win.

Northern Illinois defeated Fresno State 40-17 in last year's Potato Bowl.
