Palmer Place Fest to feature live music this year

As Ohio University students prepare to ring in another season of fests, the organizers of Palmer Place Festival are looking to change up the scene.

Though the one-day festival, which is set for April 27, will still find its home at Palmer Place, 25. Kurtz St., this year’s fest will have an addition — live music.

“If you look at Mill (Fest) and Palmerfest, those guys have DJs in their backyards playing music,” said Kieran Manzi, co-organizer of the event. “We just wanted to offer everyone some really good music.”

Eleven DJ’s will play various styles throughout the day, starting with more-mellow, old-school ’80s funk, Caribbean and hip-hop — all leading up to the more-energetic electronic dance music.

Acts slated to perform include DJ AA, DJ Pro Bono, Capt PlannedIT, Gibbs, DJ Bedroom Punishment, DJ Slumber, DJ Barticus, DJ More, DJ A-Roc and DJ Biten, all opening for bustedBASS.

In addition to performing under the moniker DJ AA, Alex Amerio is helping to organize the event with Manzi. Unlike Palmerfest and Mill Fest, Amerio said this one will be at one location instead of several houses. When festgoers move from house to house, Amerio explained, they’re less likely to pay attention to the music.

“We are going to centralize the event to one music venue,” Amerio said. “We are hoping it will be something people will stick around for.”

Amerio and Manzi are paying out of pocket for the free event but are seeking more sponsors to support the fest alongside its early sponsor, Campus Kicks.

By bringing in musical acts, Palmer Place Fest could escalate to the level of Palmerfest and Number Fest.

“With the acts we have lined up and the professional sound we are bringing in, it will be an event to remember,” Amerio said.
