Closures, delays for Obama to start Tuesday night

Ohio University will be filled with street closures, limited building access and delays beginning as early as Tuesday night.

Starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday, access will be restricted for College Green in preparation for President Barack Obama’s Wednesday visit.

University administration and Obama staffers released a statement Tuesday outlining some of the event’s procedures.

The queue for guests will begin at Court Street, going west onto President and Union Street.  The gates will open at 3:00 p.m.

All attendees will go through “airport-like” security and are discouraged from bringing personal items.  Bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids and signs are prohibited.  Cell phones, cameras and baby strollers for children are allowed.

Parking in Baker University Center’s garage will be limited to monthly pass holders and disabled event attendees; meanwhile, Peden Stadium parking will be open to event attendees only.  Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution throughout the day, as various rows and lots will be closed across campus and Uptown.

Along with parking problems, drivers can expect to make a few detours en route to their destinations.  Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, portions of Union Street, S. Court Street., University Terrace and S. College Street. will be closed.

Pedestrian traffic can also expect a few delays.  Also beginning at 8:30 a.m., the east sidewalk on South Court Street will be closed.  Portions of University Terrace, East Union Street, South College Street will be completely off-limits to pedestrians.

University faculty members are encouraged to understand the additional time needed for students to travel across campus, according to the news release.

Several university buildings will be operating on adjusted hours.  Alden library will be open as scheduled, but access will be limited to the second floor (Park Place) entrance.  Deliveries will not be allowed until Thursday.

Chubb Hall will close at 11:00 a.m.  All critical problems related to the Bursar, Registrar and Student Services offices will be handled through phone calls and email.

Wilson Hall, which houses the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Affairs Office, will be closed all day Wednesday.  Advisors will be available in Baker University Center room 514, between the hours of 9:00 am – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 pm.

Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, Galbreath Chapel, Cutler Hall and McGuffey Hall are to be vacated by 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.
