Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical, will be tapping into its Athens fan base after a 21-day tour in England in October.
Omniverse Vision, NCM Fathom and The Broadway League are bringing Jesus Christ Superstar UK Rock Spectacular to the Athena Grand Monday and Thursday. The show features recordings of its two performances in Birmingham, England.
“By bringing the best of Broadway to hundreds of movie theaters across the country, including the Athena Grand theater, audiences will experience this newly staged rock opera concert from the U.K. with fellow fans in their local movie theater,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of business development for NCM Fathom Events.
The show will also feature behind-the-scenes cast interviews, both from past and present shows, as well as a historical retrospective.
“I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar probably 35 years ago and it was such a great performance,” said Rick Frame, manager of the Athena Grand. “Hopefully, this new production will bring a younger and wider crowd to this great musical.”
Frame predicts that the show will draw about 45–75 people on its opening night and hopefully more on its second night.
The production is one of multiple music events that have been hosted by NCM Fathom and the Athena Grand.
Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events, said she hopes that this production will put a new spin on the classic production and open the doors up for new fans to enjoy the show.
