Student Senate unanimously impeaches senator

After ending Wednesday night’s Student Senate with an executive session, Senate announced Thursday night the impeachment of a senator.

Michael Curry, the former Greek Life senator for the Multicultural Greek Council, was impeached from his position because of attendance problems, according to Thursday’s news release.

Curry did not attend general-body meetings, committee meetings and office hours, Senate President Zach George said.

Senate’s rules and procedures mandate that all senators must have perfect attendance, according to a news release.

“At the beginning of the year, we (the Executives) promised that we would hold senate accountable, and that’s exactly what we are doing,” Senate Vice President Amrit Saini said in a news release.

Curry was sent numerous emails warning him of his offences. Eventually, he was sent requests for his letter of resignation, George said.

After senate did not receive a response, its voting members unanimously impeached Curry. He was invited to Wednesday’s meeting to defend his actions, but was not present, George said.

Curry was appointed to his former senatorial position, according to a news release.
