Weekend sports preview

Akron enters Peden Stadium for the Homecoming tilt against Ohio. The Bobcats lost to Ball State 23-20 in this past year’s Homecoming game. The Zips are under new management and are now led by Terry Bowden, whose offensive scheme led by senior quarterback Dalton Williams has generated 33 points per contest.

Redshirt junior running back Beau Blankenship has a chance to be the first 1,000-yard rusher since Kalvin McRae in 2007.

The Ohio hockey team skates onto the ice against Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday at Bird Arena. The Bobcats look to maintain their perfect 6-0 record this season. So far, they have outscored their opponents 36-9. Ohio is the top-ranked team in the American College Hockey Association, but the Sooners are only three spots behind the Bobcats in the rankings and will likely present the stiffest test Ohio has faced so far this season.

Ohio field hockey takes on Missouri State on the heels of coach Neil Macmillan’s 100th victory. The Bears have finished in last place in the conference. Seniors Cathryn Altdoerffer, Andrea Biegalski, Taylor Brown, Laura Mastro and Marissa Higgins will be honored on Senior Day, which is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pruitt Field.
