While some live in fear of the impending theoretical end of days, others welcome it.
Patrons will drink the doomsday in with specialty martinis at Casa Nueva’s “End of the World Party” on Thursday night.
The event, which will be held the evening before the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world, is focused on recognizing the human race’s — perhaps — final hours.
“I’m surprised there (aren’t more events like this going on),” said Zeb Thobbans, an owner and worker at Casa Nueva. “I think more places should do it; it sounds like it’s going to be a fun party.”
Josh Brown, booking agent at the restaurant, said that Chris Bruno, the marketing coordinator, approached him with the idea. The party will be ‘50s-lounge themed, and Casa will decorate the cantina that day at 3 p.m.
?“We’ll deck out the entire bar with cloth hangings, leopard print on the tables and blacklights,” Brown said. “It’ll be a different kind of atmosphere than Casa normally has.”
Brown said that the business had held these kinds of themed parties previously. Both bartenders and attendees will be dressed more formally, and there will be 12 new martinis created specially for the event.
“It’s going to be a dress-up kind of party, a classy atmosphere,” Thobbans said. “It’s just fun to go out in style.”
From 10 p.m. till midnight, Jim Wachtel will perform piano music. Watchtel immediately came to mind for the event because his music goes well with the Las Vegas lounge theme, Brown said.
After midnight passes, Matt Paul, also known as Sector7G, will DJ for a dance party which will run until closing at 2 a.m. Paul includes a wide range of genres in his playlists, including jazz-inspired music.
The event will be free, and so far Brown expects that the re-introduction of the Voodoo Lounge theme will go smoothly.
“We’ve gotten some really great feedback (on the idea of a End of the World party),” Brown said. “Hopefully the world doesn’t end, so that we can have more lounge-style parties.”
