Students walking en route to Baker University Center may have noticed some construction occurring at 29 Park Place, better known as the home of Ohio University President Roderick McDavis.
“We were replacing the sidewalk in front of the house,” said Harry Wyatt, associate vice president of Facilities during a conference call Thursday. “It was a stone sidewalk that created a tripping hazard.”
The current sidewalk was replaced with a concrete sidewalk.
“It was funded out of routine maintenance funds and the cost was about $5,000,” he added.
Wyatt said no other construction besides the replacement of the sidewalk was set to occur at the house.
According to a previous Post article, the house at 29 Park Place has served as a home to seven Ohio University presidents. It was built in 1898 and eventually bought by OU in 1951 for $60,000. A 1995 estimate prices the house at about $1.4 million.
