Senators kept meeting brief, discussed app to benefit student transportation

Ohio University Student Senate moved to Copeland Hall Wednesday night, instead of its usual meeting place in Walter Hall, for its second meeting.

OU senators kept their proceedings short with just one presentation this week.

The meeting kicked off with a presentation from Mel Ruberg, off-campus life senator, concerning DoubleMap, an app that would give OU students real-time updates as to where all buses in the city are and when they will arrive at their stops.

Senate has started a conversation with the city about bringing this software to Athens and hopes OU’s administration will take an interest in it in the near future, Ruberg said.

Senate recently conducted an online survey of the student body, which received 250 responses, and resulted in the vast majority of students supporting the incorporation of the program, though students are apprehensive about paying even a dollar more to support it.

SAC’s balance at the meeting was $86,237.12 and Senate’s balance was $16,341.61.
