Post Letter: Gun control doesn't remove violence

Restricting citizens’ access to firearms and/or ammunition is a shortsighted and wrong-headed approach to the problem of people killing others with guns. Determined killers will find any means to kill, but unarmed citizens are only ripe and defenseless targets. Though the killing of the innocent Sandy Hook Elementary School children was certainly tragic and outrageous, any deranged and determined killer could have used a bomb or a number of other means to inflict such mayhem. The fact that he chose to use an “assault”-type semi-automatic rifle to carry out this heinous crime had no bearing on his ability or intent to commit mass murder. Access to his mother’s guns may have offered him some convenience, but this crazed young man would have no doubt concocted another diabolical scheme to kill had they not been available.

There are plenty of gun control laws on the books already — the government should try enforcing them instead for a change, not whittling away at our Constitutional Second Amendment rights. Fellow Americans, DO NOT endorse Obama’s new gun control plans or encourage your elected representatives to introduce any other measures to restrict or limit in any way your access to or right to bear arms of your own choosing. In addition, let them know we DO NOT want new requirements for expanding background checks, registration of and limits on ammo sales or institution of registration requirements for private sales — these are private matters the government has no business tracking and interfering with. It will only lead to a feeble, disarmed citizenry controlled by a tyrannical and heavily armed government — like Nazi Germany, for example.

We need government to focus instead on CENSORING (YES, CENSOR — there, I said it, the dirty word) the relentless barrage of sadistic, bloody, satanic and horrific imagery perpetrated on our society and young people by our death-obsessed TV, Internet, Hollywood and video game industries (something Obama’s approach conveniently sidestepped). Government should allow and encourage citizens and teachers to arm themselves and train for self-defense so we can assist the police, better protect ourselves and our neighbors and stop criminals in the act with deadly force, like the brave mother in Georgia this month who protected herself and her children with a gun from a home intruder. There are hundreds of examples of criminals being deterred and stopped cold with guns, as documented on gunssavelives.net and many other websites.

The media elite, however, conveniently chose not to report on these heroic feats, but instead incessantly glorify the cowardly and tragic acts of murderers while demonizing the “evil” guns in their hands. Guns are not the problem — black hearts and minds are. Folks, have some common sense on this. Gun control is not the answer. What’s next — hammers, axes and baseball bats, for Pete’s sake?
