Post Letter: Beautification day will show pride in city

Athens Beautification Day is a collective effort by residents and students to improve our community. On Sunday, April 14, a wave of volunteers will take part in more than 40 projects that will span the entire city of Athens.

Last year we had an outpouring of almost 900 volunteers, planting flowers, mulching mulch beds, picking up trash and removing graffiti over two square miles. With the help of more than a dozen local businesses and Ohio University, we were able to properly give back to the city that has given us so much.

In past years this has been a student-led effort. This year I am asking you to help make this a citywide effort. By registering online at www.athensbday2013.eventbrite.com, you and your family can be part of the largest volunteer event held in the city of Athens. Individual projects will be delegated upon check-in on April 14 at noon. If you have any questions or would like to participate in a specific project, please feel free to email me at mr239109@ohio.edu.

Please come out on April 14 and show the community you are proud to call Athens home.

Melinda Ruberg is a senior studying biological sciences and the director of Athens Beautification Day.
