Annual Benefest concert supports local music and charities

While some stress and sweat their way through the anxiety of a quickly approaching finals week, others will rock out to some quality local music.

The third annual Benefest Concert will start Thursday at Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St., and end Friday at the Union Bar & Grill, 18 W. Union St., with proceeds from donations going to The Gathering Place and Arts/West.

Von Lionson, Corbin Marsh Band, Method Air and Fathers of the Revolution will take the Casa stage tonight with Helen Highwater, Small Steps, Bright at Night and Blond rounding out the bill at The Union Friday.

This will be Corbin Marsh’s first time playing for the miniature festival and he said the band is happy to support such a great cause.

“The Gathering Place Provides a really great resource for the city and for the county,” said Corbin Marsh, frontman for the Corbin Marsh Band. “We’re really happy to be a part of it in anyway we can. … We’re really excited to support them.”

Corbin Marsh joined us for our first Athens Sessions of the year where he played a number of tunes and explained his creative process in writing the songs.
