Pre-game

• 2014 records:

       - Ohio — 7-6 (4-4)

       - Kent State — 4-8 (3-5)

• Saturday marked the first time Ohio faced a Mid-American Conference opponent in its season opener since 2001.

• The Bobcats last won at Kent State in 2008.

• The Golden Flashes defeated the Bobcats 44-13 in Athens last season.

• Safety Josh Kristoff and Linebacker Ben Russell were ruled out for Saturday's game. Quentin Poling (LB) and Nathan Carpenter (S) took their place.

1st Quarter

10:01: Derrius Vick hit Landon Smith over the middle for a 25-yard touchdown pass on Ohio's second drive of the game. Vick also found Brendan Cope earlier in the drive for a 58-yard hookup. PAT good by Josiah Yazdani. OHIO 7, KSU 0

5:58: Kent State scored following a 3:57 drive, when Colin Reardon found Josh Boyle for an 8-yard touchdown pass. PAT good by Melchiori. OHIO 7, KSU 7

2nd Quarter

6:53: After a penalty (two players on the field with the same number) by Kent State, Ohio's drive stayed alive. A 38-yard connection between Vick and Patterson immediately following KSU's penalty started the momentum towards the end zone and they capped off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Vick to L. Smith in the back of the end zone. PAT good by Yazdani. OHIO 14, KSU 7

3rd Quarter

11:48: Tim Edmond fumbled the ball on a rush up the middle and Kent State recoverd the ball at the Ohio 33-yard line.

9:52: A near interception by Devin Jones on 3rd down and 3 forced Kent State to attempt a 20-yard field goal. Melchiori pushed the attempt wide right.

6:38: While Ohio was driving, Daz Patterson fumbled the ball at the Kent State 25-yard line, which was recovered by Kent State.

4th Quarter

11:01: Patterson fumbled for the second time on the night, with Kent State recovering the ball on its own 25-yard line.

7:39: Dorian Brown fumbled the ball at the Kent State 22 and the Golden Flashes recovered.

3:34: On a drive following Ohio's fourth fumble of the night, Colin Reardon connected with Chris Humphrey for a 25-yard touchdown. PAT good by Melchiori. OHIO 14, KSU 14

:03: Yazdani kicks the game-winning 44-yard field goal as time runs out. OHIO 17, KSU 14
