Police reports show theft, possession of drugs

A handful of police reports rolled through the Athens Police Department and the Ohio University Police Department throughout move-in week, with calls coming from both on and off campus.

While freshmen snuggled in to their extra-long twin beds for their first few nights in Athens, the town was anything but quiet  — naturally.

A handful of police reports rolled through the Athens Police Department and the Ohio University Police Department throughout move-in week, with calls coming from both on and off campus.

APD is currently investigating an Aug. 18 monetary theft at the McDonald’s on Richland Avenue.

A trainee was going through an employee orientation process when they realized their wallet was missing. Police later recovered the wallet, which was found in the restaurant’s bathroom, but the report added that it appeared some money had been removed.

It is believed that a “known individual” had taken the money, the report said. The case remains under investigation.

Five days later and a fifth of a mile away, two tenants at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center logged a report to APD after two Adderall pills and money were allegedly stolen from their room.

The tenants were not in the room during the time of the burglary. Around $260 in cash was stolen, according to the report.

Athens Police also received four reports of shoplifting at the Athens Wal-Mart from Aug. 2-23, with at least $68 worth of merchandise shoplifted, the report stated.

Ohio University Police also had a hefty share of reports.

The department received 11 drug-related reports from Aug. 21-24 — eight of which were on South and East Green. Four people were charged for possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia.

Athens County EMS responded to and transported a female from Bromley Hall on Friday morning. The female was choking on her vomit, according to reports.
