Editorial: Bobcats should retract their claws

We have received numerous letters regarding the Megan Marzec’s “blood bucket” controversy, and we are continuing to run as many as we can on our opinion page, with the rest appearing online.

We have received numerous letters regarding the Megan Marzec’s “blood bucket” controversy, and we are continuing to run as many as we can on our opinion page, with the rest appearing online.

The level of interest in this topic represents how much Ohio University students, faculty and alumni — as well as others outside our community — want to be a part of the discussion. We have appreciated the dialogue that has come forth in the aftermath of the video’s release, but not all of it has been healthy.

The fact that Marzec has received death threats because of the video is abhorring. Simply put, she shouldn’t be fearing for her life as a result of her personal views about OU’s involvement with Israel.

Many believe Marzec’s video isn’t representative of the values of this university. On the other hand, neither are the death threats she faces.

There is nothing wrong with healthy discussions, but death threats — and other slurs slung toward Marzec — are not appropriate responses.

It’s as simple as that.
