A student can win free tuition by buying a t-shirt — if OU scores

Buying a t-shirt for the Bobcat Blackout game Nov. 18 will give one lucky student the opportunity to win a semester's worth of free tuition — if OU scores a touchdown on the first or second half kickoff.

Buying a t-shirt for the Bobcat Blackout game Nov. 18 will give one lucky student the opportunity to win a semester's worth of free tuition — if OU scores a touchdown on the first or second half kickoff, according to the Blackout's director.

Bobcat Blackout encourages every student to buy a shirt. After purchasing the shirt, students must sign up for the raffle to win free tuition, said Joseph Watkins, director of Bobcat Blackout.

The winner will receive $5,500 and will be selected the day of the game through a raffle. The winning student must be in attendance at the November game when the name is pulled from the raffle.

"The person will be selected the day of the game to ensure they are in attendance if an Ohio player returns either the opening kickoff of the first half or the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown," Watkins told The Post.

This event is being put on and funded through SCA Promotions and organized through Bobcat Blackout. Proceeds raised from t-shirt sales go toward graduate student scholarships, and Blackout also works with Ohio Athletics to promote the game, Watkins said.

“SCA is a widely known sporting underwriting insurance company… they undertake the liability of writing the contract,” Watkins said.

The promotion started on Sept. 18 and will run up until kickoff on Saturday’s game against Bowling Green.

“In previous iterations of Green Fever, we have done the same thing using the same company,” Watkins said.

For Green Fever, a basketball promotion, if a student bought a shirt he or she was entered into a raffle to take a half-court shot during halftime of the Green Fever game. Someone was selected to take the half-court shot, but the student did not make it. If the student had made it, that student would have received $10,000, Watkins said.

“This is the first time for football we are doing this,” Watkins said.

Bobcat Blackout has already utilized social media and fliers to promote this event and will also advertise it on the video board during the Homecoming game.

Currently, between 200 and 300 people have purchased t-shirts and entered the contest, Watkins said.

Correction: The scholarship a student could win by buying a Bobcat Blackout t-shirt will be given out at the Bobcat Blackout game Nov. 18, 2014, not this Saturday, as this article previously stated. The scholarship will be advertised at this weekend's game.
