Athens City Council Preview: Council members to discuss bike spur

City to take another look at bike spur

Athens City Council will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the city building, 8 E. Washington St for committee meetings.

Though the past few weeks have brought heated discussions from trash to liquor licenses, this week council will be focusing on more transportation related topics.

The Columbus Bike Path Spur has been in the works since 2012 when the city received funds for the project through ODOT, according to city documents.

“A Columbus Road Bikepath Spur is the last major spur to link in a portion of the City of Athens that has been isolated from bike and pedestrian transportation,”a document on the city’s website said.

In 2013, a design for the bike path surfaced, but the city has looked at other plans since.

Council will also be discussing pedestrian and bicycle safety.
