'Comedians of Saturday Night Live' performance featuring Aidy Bryant cancelled

The only Spring Semester stand-up act in the Performing Arts and Concert series is now canceled.

The only Spring Semester stand-up act in the Performing Arts and Concert series is now canceled.

The “Comedians of Saturday Night Live” performance, featuring Aidy Bryant and just-announced Streeter Seidell, was scheduled to take place at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium on Feb. 6.

This comes after another SNL cast member, Leslie Jones, canceled her performance earlier this month. Todd Erickson, representative for the acts through Babco Entertainment, said both cancellations are because of “unforeseen schedule changes.”

“I know what (a) great environment OU is for shows. Hopefully, we'll be able to get them to campus in the future,” Erickson said in an email.

Advertisements announcing the addition of Seidell to the lineup were posted earlier Wednesday before the cancellation of the event was announced.

“(Cancellations are) definitely not my favorite thing to deal with, but it is part of the job,” said Andrew Holzaepfel, senior associate director of student activities for the Campus Involvement Center.

Although the Sibs Weekend show will not be replaced by another event that weekend, Holzaepfel said OU is “definitely still looking for all kinds of shows for the spring.” The university’s reasoning behind not slotting another show for that weekend is because of the short notice, he said.

Jennie Pagliuca, a freshman studying special education, said she was disappointed when she heard the news.

“I’m very sad,” she said. “I love SNL, I watch it every Saturday. I would have loved to see them up close.”

Sarah Gallagher, a freshman who has not yet declared a major, echoed Pagliuca’s sentiments.

“I was excited because (Bryant) made that video about college, she’d have funny things to say,” she said.

The Performing Arts Series has included comedians such as Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari and Seth Meyers over the past three academic years.

Although Holzaepfel said he did not know the exact number of tickets already sold for the event. Those who have already purchased tickets online will be able to get their refunds via the online refund service, according to the Performing Arts and Concert series website. Those who bought tickets in person or over the phone from the auditorium should contact the auditorium box office for a refund.
