Enough with the false Baker fire alarms, already

Just four days into the semester, students and staff have been evacuated from Baker University Center several times because of false fire alarm activations.

While we’re generally patient people who are understanding of early-semester setbacks — we’ve had our own — it’s tough to take a fire alarm seriously when a handful go off in a day and there’s no sign of a potentially dangerous situation.

Say a real emergency were to happen, and the alarm went off again. It’s doubtful that all the people in Baker at the time would treat it as seriously as they would otherwise.

Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? Same concept here.

Per our reporting in Thursday’s paper, thawing pipes in the basement of Baker causing a sprinkler system to go off are to blame for the false alarms. The parking garage was closed as of press time as a result.

So, hopefully, the end of the fire-alarm reign over Baker is near. If not, be sure to stick with us for updates.
