OUPD officer allegedly assaulted in the course of arrest

An Ohio University Police officer sustained injuries to his face and received a bloody nose.

While arresting a disorderly male Monday evening, an Ohio University Police Officer was allegedly assaulted behind Pickering Hall on South Green.

Officer John Stabler was allegedly struck in the face by Camden Pierce, 20, of Athens, and received a bloody nose, OUPD Lieutenant Tim Ryan said.

Pierce appears to be an Ohio University student, according to OU’s database.

Drugs were suspected to have been involved in Pierce’s arrest, a police report said, and he was charged with disorderly conduct, fictitious/altered ID, resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer — a fourth-degree felony.

Copies of the report were sent to the Athens County Prosecutor and Ohio University's Office of Community standards, according to the report.

Through the course of the investigation, it was additionally determined Pierce was suspected in assaulting several other people, according to the police report.

Camden appeared in Athens County Municipal Court Tuesday morning, according to court documents, and entered no plea. His preliminary hearing in municipal court is scheduled for March 5.
