'Post' Q&A with Coach Bob Boldon

Boldon's 14-seeded Bobcats will take on Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona Saturday night.

CLEVELAND – Standing beneath The Q’s massive video screens at mid-court, coach Bob Boldon spoke with The Post about his team’s first outright Mid-American Conference title since 1985-86.

Minutes before the interview, the Bobcats claimed the MAC Championship, after beating Eastern Michigan 60-44 on Saturday.

The interview began with Boldon praising junior guard Kiyanna Black’s 25-point performance, resulting in her being named the MAC player of the tournament. However, at halftime Eastern Michigan lead 27-25 as Ohio struggled to stop the tournament’s No. 6 seed, lead by Cha Sweeney.

The Post: Coach, what were you telling your team at halftime?

Bob Boldon: Just to stick to the plan. We didn’t shoot the ball well in three halves (at that point), but we have trust and faith in what we do. We were going to continue to stay the course. That’s how we got here. We weren’t gonna try anything crazy at this point. We were just going to stick to the game plan and continue to work and I thought they did just that.

The Post: Are you ready for the NCAA Tournament now?

Boldon: Yeah, I’m excited. It’s the next step.

The Post: Did you think the championship victory would happen this early?

Boldon: I don’t know. It’ll happen when it happens. You can’t control that. It could’ve taken us five years to get here; it happened to take us two. So we’ll take the next step, which is get back to campus and practice on Monday and find out who we play Monday night, then start preparing to go somewhere and play in the NCAA Tournament.
