Six individuals arrested for drug trafficking in one day

The Athens Major Crimes Unit arrested six people Tuesday for drug trafficking

The Athens Major Crimes Unit arrested six individuals Tuesday for individual drug trafficking investigations, calling the arrests a “roundup operation” in a news release.

With the help from Hocking Major Crimes Unit, the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office and the Glouster Village Police Department, law enforcement officers were able to stop the trafficking of cocaine, seize multiple units of heroin and arrest an individual for aggravated drug possession.

Chad R. Hook, 39, was arrested at his residence in Glouster for trafficking cocaine after an informant bought crack cocaine from him “under bulk,” according to a news release from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

While his arrest would have usually resulted in a fifth-degree felony charge, it was increased to a fourth-degree due to the incident occurring in a school zone, according to the news release.

Hook was out on bond from a previous drug trafficking charge from November 2014 when he was charged with three counts of trafficking crack cocaine in a school zone.

Hook’s arrest was a result of a joint investigation from the Glouster Village Police Department and the Athens Major Crimes Unit.

Robert A Degarmore, 53, and three others in his Glouster home, was arrested for the possession of heroin. The three others that were arrested were Daniel N. Spears, 33, Cary A. Losey, 39 and Kevin Degamore, 22.

The four were arrested after an interview and a consent search of the residence, which unveiled 15 unit doses of heroin and packaging material that had heroin residue on it, according to the news release.

Spears was scheduled to begin a three-year prison sentence next month for an unrelated felony theft case in Athens County, according to the release.

Michael E. Dexter, 49, was arrested for his active warrant for his arrest stemming from a 2012 aggravated drug possession charge.

All six suspects were booked into the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
