Where to go to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Athens

Athens is going extra green today in honor of St. Paddy’s Day.

Though many students celebrated St. Patrick's Day on Green Beer Day last week, local bars and restaurants are offering specials today to celebrate the holiday.

“I am staying in tonight because I went out for Green Beer Day last week,” said Nicolette Lambos, a freshman studying education. “I have school stuff to do.”

Josie Lupariello, a junior studying music therapy, said she is going out to celebrate a friend’s birthday that happens to be St. Patrick’s Day.

“We’re going to Jackie O’s tonight for her birthday,” Lupariello said. “We usually get pretty crazy, but that’s the main reason we are going out.”

For individuals who still want to go out and enjoy a shamrock-filled day, several uptown establishments are offering deals and specials:

Jackie O's Pub & Brewery, 24 W. Union St., will have corned beef and cabbage or fish n’ chips until 9:30 p.m., according to its Facebook page. It will also have O’Hooley’s Irish Stout and Prouty’s Irish Red on tap.
