HTC dean chosen as American Council on Education Fellow

Jeremy Webster, dean of Honors Tutorial College, will spend next year away from OU participating in the ACE Fellows Program.

The American Council on Education has named Honors Tutorial College Dean Jeremy Webster to its “ACE Fellows Program.”

ACE Fellows participate in seminars, take on projects, work on case studies and more at a different university,

“I look forward to an enriching experience and the opportunity to return to our campus and apply my newly acquired skills and knowledge,” Webster said in a news release.

While Webster is away from campus, Cary Frith, assistant dean of the Honors Tutorial College, will be the acting dean of HTC, OU Spokeswoman Katie Quaranta said in an email.

Webster will only be off-campus for Fall Semester, and the university at which Webster will study will be decided in early summer, Quaranta said.

The ACE Fellows Program awarded 46 other university officials for its 2015-16 program. Since it started 50 years ago, the council has awarded more than 1,800 individuals.

“His selection is a reflection on how highly regarded he is at Ohio University,” Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit, who nominated Webster, said in the release. “I am proud of the leadership he has demonstrated as dean of the Honors Tutorial College.”

Webster, who has been dean since 2009, is in charge of the college’s tutorial programs. He oversees the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards and the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, according to the release.

Webster served as an associate professor in OU’s Department of English, specializing in 18th century British literature and lesbian and gay literature. He received both his bachelor’s degree in history and his master’s degree in English from Texas A&M University. Webster received his doctorate in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, according to the release.
