Nate Ruess of fun. to play MemAud this fall

Nate Ruess of fun. will perform at Ohio University Oct. 14 as part of the Campus Consciousness Tour, which mixes a music tour with an environmental campaign.

Ohio University is about to have a little fun.

The lead singer of indie pop band fun., Nate Ruess, is coming to Athens as part of the Campus Consciousness Tour, which mixes a music tour with an environmental campaign. Ruess will be doing a solo performance Oct. 14 at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The supporting artists in the tour have not yet been announced.

His performance will be the second show in the “concert” part of the overall Performing Arts and Concert Series.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 7. The first 10 rows cost $45. The remainder are $25.

“We were excited to have the opportunity to bring Nate to campus,” Andrew Holzaepfel, senior associate director of the Campus Involvement Center, said in an email. “Being part of the Campus Consciousness tour was just a bonus.”

The tour is half music tour and half environmental campaign meant to educate and mobilize students while running on a minimal environmental footprint. The Campus Consciousness Tour is a project of REVERB, a non-profit dedicated to educating and engaging musicians and their fans to take action toward a more sustainable future.

Previous headliners of the tour include Drake, J. Cole, Icona Pop and Capital Cities.

Ruess is no stranger to the tour and to Athens. When Janelle Monáe headlined in 2011, fun. was also featured in the concert that played at MemAud — one year before its smash hit “We Are Young” debuted.

In February 2015, the fun. bandmembers posted on Facebook to say they haven’t broken up but are on a hiatus while all three members do different projects. Ruess released his debut solo album Grand Romantic on June 16.

I am really looking forward to having him back on campus,” Holzaepfel said. “He obviously built quite a reputation with both his work in fun. and the Format. He has already continued off that success as a solo artist — with his hit with P!nk and Eminem as well as his newly released singles.”
