After taking August off, Athens City Council will resume its weekly meetings.
With its August hiatus over, Athens City Council will be back in session Tuesday and will be revisiting some old issues.
The agenda for its Tuesday night meeting includes doing a first reading of an ordinance on the construction of the Columbus Road Bike Spur.
“We received an additional $600,000 from (the Ohio Department of Transportation) that put us over the top,” Councilwoman Michele Papai, D-3rd Ward, said.
The bike path construction project previously put out a request for bids over the summer, but was not picked up due to the original estimate made by the city for the project, Papai said.
“It’s a fall construction item, but I’m not sure if it’ll be completely finished before bad weather,” Papai said.
The project is currently open for bids.
Another project on council’s agenda is roof repairs for the Armory.
There had been plans to conduct a feasibility study on revamping the Armory last year with grant money; however, council had no formal plans for renovation at that time.
“Over the course of all of last year, we’ve been dealing with the Armory and what it needs. And I think one of the most important things was to get the roof in good shape again,” Papai said.
The repairs will cost the city $82,500, according to Council President Chris Knisely.
“It’ll come from the line item Capital Improvement Fund, which is used for building repairs,” Knisley said.
Councilmembers will also also read a series of ordinances related to the Halloween Block Party.
