New festival GlowDance promises EDM and rage

GlowDance is a new and forthcoming EDM music festival coming to Athens, Ohio and the college community of Ohio University. The GlowDance festival is a successor to the Color Dance festival.

From its predecessor, the ColorDance Music and Arts Festival, A-Town Roots Productions created the GlowDance, which promises attendees a “raging good time.”

The GlowDance is the first of its kind. It will feature electronic dance music and is set to have an all-day production of artists, black lights and UV-reactive colors to shine on the crowds.

Ryan Miller, CEO of A-Town Roots Productions, said the festival will be EDM-based and that he hopes to create an event other than the traditional music festival and introduce this musical concept to the student population.

“We’re doing black and white UV reactive colors and introducing the rave scene,” Miller said.

The event will start at 3 p.m. Saturday and will go on throughout the day.

“(The GlowDance has been) challenging. … We are trying to pack in the experience of ColorDance (a three-day festival) into one night,” Jerod Black, the chief creative officer of A-Town Roots Productions, said. “But, I enjoyed the creative process; our company definitely is a team.”

Miller said A-Town Roots Productions has even gone as far as thinking ahead to next year's festival and how they can improve it.

According to the GlowDance 2015 Facebook event, nearly 500 people are planning to attend.

The event will feature Ohio-based artists, such as Yheti, Aludel, DeadRomeo, Somadose, Overwaves and Kashmerik.

Miller said A-Town Roots hopes to further the ColorDance brand by reaching a new demographic with the EDM brand in the college community. Mama Renie’s Pizza will cater the event.

“(I'm looking forward to) just the dancing and the music,” Kyle Shell, a freshman studying middle school education, said. “I’ll definitely be decked out in glow stuff and I’ll be in the mosh pit, jamming with my friends. It’s gonna be a blast.”

Tickets at the gate will be $15. Presale tickets can be purchased online at http://atownroots.com/events/.

One of GlowDance’s sponsors, Thunder Bunny Tattoo Parlor, will be raffling off a free tattoo worth $300.
