If you notice that our front pages look different, it’s because we’re doing something special for Homecoming Week.
We here at The Post love to keep traditions alive and well. That’s why we decided to continue with our annual practice of publishing “throwback” style front pages this week in celebration of Homecoming.
Monday’s paper is modeled after a 1943 edition of The Post, which explains why our front page looks more populated than usual.
We personally feel lucky that we are able to put the paper together using Adobe InDesign instead of using the good old-fashioned printing press method.
Back in October 1943, in the paper that Monday is designed after, some interesting things were taking place in Athens.
WOUB first started broadcasting once a week, between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. Tuesday nights. Now, the media group’s radio broadcasts can be heard in three states and its television counterparts can be viewed in four states.

One student, former Phi Kappa president Jack Bennett, came back to Ohio University after being honorably discharged from the military. Bennett was wounded twice in Africa.
Also present on the front page that day was a preview for Walter Sylvester Gamertsfelder’s inauguration event that would take place the following week. Gamertsfelder was OU’s 13th president.
On the front page in present day, we have a story about last weekend’s football game in which OU beat Akron, a preview of Homecoming events taking place this week and a report of a suspect being arrested in connection with a rape reported earlier this semester.
As you can see, news has changed drastically throughout the decades, but The Post is still determined to bring you the best information possible around Athens.
Similar to last year’s Homecoming Week front pages, we will progressively work our way toward the modern design throughout the week, culminating in our current design for Friday’s paper, which we will also pass out during Saturday’s Homecoming Parade.
This will give readers a chance to see what The Post is about today, but also giving them a dose of nostalgia during Homecoming festivities.
