The upcoming Brown Bag will include a discussion about the importance of minority faculty on campus.

Women's Center Brown Bag discussion to help students deal with stressful tasks

A professional organizer will give participants tips and tricks to help tackle the tough stuff and eliminate stress.

The Women’s Center’s upcoming Brown Bag event will leave students and faculty with some helpful tricks to use when tackling their most dreaded tasks.

The discussion, titled “Misery Work: How to Get it Done and Out of the Way,” will be facilitated by Aubrei Krummert. Krummert is a professional organizer and productivity coach who aims to help people live more calmly and efficiently through her work.

During this workshop Thursday, Krummert will teach participants how to tackle the jobs they dislike doing the most.

“It’s meant to be a hands-on workshop where people give me examples of their own dreaded tasks, and I give them tactics to cope,” Krummert said.

Krummert said the subjects she teaches are applicable to people of all ages, and she wants everyone to know that having dreaded tasks is both normal and acceptable.

“I want people to realize that it’s okay to be stressed out, even about the little things,” she said.

She said she hopes participants will be able to identify tactics that work well for them personally, and learn how to use them to conquer their stress and “move on to what is really important.”

Sarah Jenkins, program coordinator for the Women’s Center, said she has high hopes for this week’s discussion, particularly with finals week approaching.

“I’m hoping that the Brown Bag will be especially motivating for students as finals are coming up,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins also said this discussion will apply to both students and faculty, as finals week can be equally as dreadful for the professors who make and grade the exams.

“I’m hoping that some of the tips she gives out … will be useful and kind of get people fired up to finish the semester with a bang,” she said.

Emily Spry, an undecided freshman, said she sometimes struggles to stay motivated to study and complete assignments.

“Now, towards the end of the semester I’m kind of fading out,” Spry said. “I’m just kind of getting bored with it and I’m ready for new classes.”

However, Spry said she has a found a trick to push herself through the long readings and study sessions by using snacks such as goldfish crackers as rewards.

“I’ll put (the crackers) at the end of really long paragraphs so that when I finish reading it, I get to snack on it,” she said.

She also said she’d like to learn more tactics such as these to motivate herself to tackle these unpleasant responsibilities
