According to a National Weather Service advisory, residents can expect one to three inches of snow, along with a few traces of ice overnight.
Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith placed the county under a Level 2 snow emergency at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Under that level snow emergency, driving on any local roads is highly discouraged unless absolutely necessary, according to an Athens County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
The alert recommends employees who require transportation to work to contact their employer.
The National Weather Service also issued a winter storm advisory for Athens at 7:19 p.m. Sunday. The advisory is set to last until Monday at 3 p.m.
According to the advisory, Athens residents can expect one to three inches of snow, along with a few traces of ice overnight.
“Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving,” the advisory reads.

Sunday's snow may not last long, however. Ohio University’s Scalia Laboratory said in a Facebook post that temperatures will likely rise Monday and rain is expected.
