Men's Golf: Ohio moves up a spot at Kingsmill Intercollegiate Tournament

Ohio moves up to ninth in a tournament in Virginia.

Led by Ben Sattler, Ty Herriott and Mike Engelman, Ohio found its swing Monday and moved up one spot to tie for ninth place at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate Tournament.

Sattler, Herriott and Engelman each drastically improved their scores in round two. One contributing factor was the warmer weather in Williamsburg, Virginia on Monday as opposed to Sunday's colder conditions.

Sattler moved up 22 spots to a tie for 73rd, shooting only 4-over par and now has an overall score of 12-over par.

Engelman contributed, as well, by shooting a 6-over par and moving up 15 spots to tie for 97th.

Herriott, who has been in the shadows of Peyton White and Grant Engel throughout much of the season, may have had the biggest impact for Ohio. He shot a 4-over par for a tie for 49th.

Throughout the year, White, Engel and Engelman contributed greatly. But in order for Ohio to finish the tournament strong and make a run at the Mid-American Conference Championship, performances like Monday's will need to become more frequent.

The biggest characteristic of strong golfers is to gain experience on different courses, to have a familiarity when golfing them and to have the mental toughness to recover from a bad hole.

That is what happened Monday for three Ohio golfers.

White and Engel each had productive days, too, though. White only dropped one spot into a tie for fourth, shooting 1-over par. He now has an overall score of par.

Engel dropped nine spots, into a tie for 43rd, shooting a 9-over par.

As a team, Ohio moved up one spot into a tie for ninth with Old Dominion. The Bobcats had an overall score of 29-over par and 14-over on the day. There are 24 teams in the tournament.

Tee times were pushed back to 9:30 a.m. for the final round Tuesday because of an expected frost overnight.
