Letter: Follow these rules of etiquette on the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway

Here are some suggested rules of etiquette for the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway.

Athens residents are fortunate to have the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway to use for recreation. But to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone on the bikeway, it’s important to observe some common sense rules. Following are some suggested rules of etiquette, many developed by the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway Committee:

1. Think courtesy. The path is open to everyone.

2. Stay to the right to maintain two-way traffic.

3. Pass on the left safely after making your presence known.

4. Keep dogs leashed. Take care of their waste.

5. Move off the pavement when stopped.

6. The only motorized vehicles allowed are those authorized for maintenance, emergencies and disabled individuals. Horses are not allowed.

7. No littering.

8. Racing and reckless riding are prohibited.

9. Enjoy the scenery but leave the flowers and plants intact.

10. For safety’s sake, be alert. The path is getting more popular.

So, get out on the bikeway. Enjoy the experience. But please be considerate of others since you are not alone.
