Ohio University Police Department investigates 10th rape reported this academic year

The alleged incident marks the 25th sex-related crime reported to The Athens Police Department or The Ohio University Police Department this academic year.

The Ohio University Police Department received its 10th report of alleged rape this academic year Friday, according to a police report.

The woman reported that someone she knew sexually assaulted her between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Friday, according to the report. An officer took a report for the alleged incident about two hours later.

The incident is under investigation, according to the report.

The report was the 25th alleged sex-related crime fielded by OUPD and The Athens Police Department since the beginning of Fall Semester, according to previous Post reports.

In the next most recent report of rape OUPD has received, an anonymous female submitted a sexual assault evidence collection kit. An OUPD officer picked up the kit from OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital on Feb. 22 at 9 p.m.

Authorities have charged at least 4 individuals for sex-related crimes during this academic year.

Shaneil Taylor plead not guilty to four counts of voyeurism and one count of tampering with evidence in the Athens County Common Pleas Court on April 6, according to court documents. His pre-trial is scheduled for next Tuesday and his jury trial is set for June 7.

Michael Conti plead no contest to persistent disorderly conduct in Athens County Municipal Court on March 23 after being charged with sexual imposition, according to court documents. He received a $250 fine and a 30-day suspended jail term. He will not serve any time in jail if he complies with the terms of his two-year probation.

OUPD announced Feb. 25 that Conti had been charged with sexual imposition for allegedly grabbing a woman's breast and attempting to kiss her as she walked down Morton Hill on Feb. 18 at about 12:30 a.m., according a previous Post report.

Police arrested John Hyland on Oct. 4 in his hometown outside Cleveland and charged him with raping a woman during a visit to campus, according to a previous Post report. His case was dismissed on Nov. 3 due to "criminal procedure."

OUPD arrested Reginald Williams II on Sept. 9 in the Baker Center Ballroom for gross sexual imposition, according to a previous Post report. The woman who reported the incident dropped the charges on Sept. 14.
