Good morning,
If you thought today was just another ordinary Friday, you’re dead wrong.
In addition to marking the end of first week of classes, today is Women’s Equality Day, National Dog Day, National Cherry Popsicle Day and the day after the 100th birthday of the U.S. National Parks System (meaning you can get in any national park for free this weekend).
Put another way, today is a sort of "day of days."
Aug. 26 is Women’s Equality Day, at least in part, because on this day in 1920 the U.S. enacted the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
National Dog Day landed on this day in 2004 because Colleen Paige, an animal advocate, adopted her first pet one Aug. 26.
National Cherry Popsicle Day is seemingly even more arbitrary: it’s just listed on various calendars.
