Five differences between your freshman and sophomore year

1) You know Athens and the campus.

Last year, it took you a while to figure out the best ways to get to your classes, find the best places to get a burrito and the best study spots. Now, you know where every academic building is on campus and the secret study areas in the library. You know the ins and outs of Athens and can give directions to visitors. With your abundant knowledge of campus, you might walk down the bricks more confidently.

2) Classes are harder, but more interesting and pertinent to your major.

With more general education requirements completed, you no longer have to take that boring intro class you have no interest in. This year, you’re taking more classes that are interesting to you and will help you get a job later. Although the classes are more related to your major, they might be much harder than those gen eds.

3) You have a solid group of friends.

At the beginning of last year, you might have struggled with finding a close group of friends. You might have bounced back and forth on student organizations until you found the right for you. Now, you have a squad you can rely on to get lunch with you and grab a late night burrito.

4) You no longer have last pick on classes and dorms.

This year, you might be living in a nicer dorm than last year (although now you might be excited to get out of dorm life and live in an apartment or house). Maybe now you have more class selections and didn’t have to sign up for that 8 a.m. class.

Here’s to not having to get up so early.

5) You can really call OU home.

Now that you’ve lived here for a year, you might have found you were missing Athens and your friends. After these first few weeks of classes, you might have realized you’re not as homesick as you used to be and you feel perfectly at home. OU is basically Hogwarts.
