Pet Instagram of the Week: Pumpernickel the minipig defies pig stereotypes

Pigs have the reputation of being gross animals. They make startling noises, roll around in mud and have big wet noses. However, there have been some studies that indicate they might actually be smart as well.

Regardless, mini pigs are undeniably cute. They are a sort of walking genetic experiment, selectively bred to be much smaller than the pigs you’ll find on a farm. They can be domesticated and act quite similar to dogs.

That brings us to Pumpernickel (@pumpernickel_the_minipig), who has more than 84,000 followers on Instagram. He is a miniature pig who sometimes wears clothes and always appears to have a smile on his face.

Quality of Pictures

The pictures on this account are taken on a phone. There isn’t a whole lot of variety, as most of the photos are taken inside. However, what Pumpernickel’s page lacks in backdrop, it makes up for with costumes. He is shown wearing sweaters, birthday hats, army helmets and more. Somewhere, the owner of this account has a wardrobe full of tiny pig clothes.

Pumpernickel appears to enjoy the camera, always tilting her head up toward the lens to get a perfect angle. What a natural.

Rate of Posts

Pumpernickel’s account shows new activity every few days or so, with some days containing multiple posts. You won’t be getting a daily pig fix, but since so many of the pictures are similar you probably won’t mind much.

Cuteness of Pet

This is where Pumpernickel shines. His small pig nose is adorable, and he looks like a very friendly addition to the home. I wouldn’t normally expect pigs to be so outgoing, but he is very willing to have his picture taken and to spend time around people.

Rating: 3/5

The premise of the account is good — it’s hard not to love a small pig. However, the lack in creativity in both the scenery and the composition of the photos leaves something to desire. Pumpernickel is worth a follow, but don’t go into it expecting to be blown away.
