The 5 movies you must see in December

The holiday season is upon us, and the movie theaters are preparing for the holiday movie rush. There are many films for people to watch while they are on break. Here are the must-see films for December:

Dec. 2: La La Land — Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are pairing up again — and this time it’s for a musical. Stone plays Mia, an aspiring actress who has difficulties making it in show business, and Gosling takes the role of Sebastian, a jazz pianist. The two engage in a love affair but face challenges as a result of their professions. The film is directed and written by Damien Chazelle, who wrote and directed the Oscar-nominated film Whiplash. La La Land, which won awards at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival, is already in talks to win the top award at the Oscars — Best Picture. The film is a must-see for those who appreciate the Academy Awards.

Dec. 9: Office Christmas Party — Carol (Jennifer Aniston), the CEO of a major company, wants to shut down her brother Clay’s (T.J. Miller) branch. Clay enlists the help of his chief technical officer, Josh (Jason Bateman), to throw the biggest office Christmas party to land a client that will save the company. Office Christmas Party is the film to see if you’re looking for a laugh.

Dec. 16: Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryRogue One is a prequel to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Jyn Erso, a rebel of the Empire, is out to steal the plans for the Death Star. With help from a few allies, Jyn sets out on a risky mission. The film is sure to bring in big box office numbers, especially because Darth Vader is supposed to make an appearance in the film.

Dec. 16: Collateral Beauty — Will Smith stars in another movie that, by the looks of it, will have people thinking about life and crying as they leave the movie theaters. The Pursuit of Happyness star takes on the role of Howard Inlet, a man who attends grief counseling for people who have lost a child. In the midst of his grief, Howard writes letters, not to people, but to intangible entities, such as Time (Jacob Latimore), Death (Helen Mirren) and Love (Kiera Knightly). Those concepts pay him a visit and help him make sense of his life. With a seasoned cast full of Academy Award nominees and winners, Collateral Beauty is sure to get some attention at the upcoming Academy Awards Ceremony.

Dec. 25: Sing — Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) is out to save his theater from being shut down, so he creates the ultimate singing competition. The film is set in a world that is entirely inhabited by animals, and some of those animals audition for Moon’s new reality competition. The animated movie is jammed-packed with stars — Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Tori Kelly, Taron Egerton, Nick Kroll and Nick Offerman. Sing is the perfect movie for children and adults.
