After a long wait, the Chainsmokers new track, “Paris,” is finally here.
The track was teased on the EDM duo's Snapchat stories and played at their shows for more than a month before it was released Friday at midnight.
Similar to their record-breaking radio hit "Closer," "Paris" features Andrew Taggart's vocals.
Unlike "Closer," though, "Paris" feels less like an EDM song and more like a pop song. The Chainsmokers have long been criticized by fans and critics alike for straying from their original EDM sound, and their latest song solidifies that point.
"Paris" starts with multiple layers of Taggart's voice singing simple, repetitive lyrics over a bassline. As the song progresses, a female vocalist, rumored to be Louane, joins Taggart. The song then cuts into a catchy guitar riff. And then the lyrics repeat, with the energy slightly increasing. Nothing new is added.
Overall, the track comes as a huge disappointment, especially coming after the release of "All We Know" and "Setting Fires." The simplicity of "Paris" sets it apart from the rest of its recent releases.
Despite that, "Paris" is sure to be another hit on the radio with catchy lyrics that are easy to remember. Among EDM fans, though, it probably won't be as popular.
The only positive from the track is that its simplicity almost begs for it to be remixed by other artists. I look forward to what artists like Illenium or T-Mass can bring to this song. Please, don't let me down.
