Football Recruiting: Rounding out Ohio's 2017 recruiting class

In the days and weeks leading up to National Signing Day, The Post will look at who has already committed to the Bobcats and who might commit in the coming days. National Signing Day is Feb. 1.

With National Signing Day less than a week away, the Bobcats have between now and Feb. 1 to cement their 2017 recruiting class for upcoming seasons.

So far, they have 16 commits, including one who is already on campus. Assuming the other 15 hard commits sign, their announcements will likely come Wednesday. Until then, college football coaches will continue to stress over the future of their programs and the signatures of 17- and 18-year-olds.

Below are profiles of the two recruits The Post has yet to review. All rankings below are from 247Sports.com.

Drew Keszei: Pro-style quarterback; 6-foot-1; 185 pounds; Homestead High School, Fort Wayne, Indiana

Keszei is Ohio's second quarterback commit of the 2017 class and the second pro-style commit. He missed his entire senior season due to an ankle injury, so here's the highlight tape from his junior season.

He went 178-for-296 passing that year, including 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions with 2,750 yards passing. He's a mobile threat as well — he ran for 773 yards and eight touchdowns.

With Keszei in the fold, he'll join a competition for the backup quarterback spot, with the assumption Quinton Maxwell is the starter. Other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster are Maxwell, Joey Duckworth, and transfer Nathan Rourke.

Keszei also held offers from Buffalo and Eastern Michigan.

Tariq Drake: Cornerback; 6-foot-1; 160 pounds; LaBrae High School, Leavittsburg, Ohio

Ohio might be building something special in the secondary.

Redshirt freshman Javon Hagan received numerous postseason awards, and Kylan Nelson is showing promise as he enters his redshirt junior year. Numerous other players, such as Bradd Ellis, also proved they're worth at least some playing time in the secondary.

Incoming three-star safety and cornerback De’vante Mitchell and Marlin Brooks are also adding to the solid building blocks in the secondary. But another freshman addition to the secondary will be Drake, now the only recruit from Ohio committed to the Bobcats.

Here's Drake's highlight tape from his senior season. According to Drake's Hudl page, he runs a 4.47 40-yard dash, has a 30 inch vertical and runs a 10.96 100-meter dash.

Drake was a free safety and wide receiver in high school, but is listed as a cornerback for the recruiting class. Assuming he'll play cornerback, Drake will be the tallest cornerback on the roster.

At 6-foot-1, Drake is just 160 pounds, but has the frame to fill out as his career evolves. With Drake's height added in with Hagan (6-foot), Nelson (5-foot-10) and Randy Stites (5-foot-11), Ohio will have not only athleticism, but size in the secondary as well.
