Police Blotter

Police Blotter: Man calls police over video game dispute, “Slender Man” sighted near local trailer park

Just a month after a dispute involving a half-eaten donut and a misplaced pepper shaker resulted in a visit from Athens County Sheriff's deputies, officers were called to a residence on the same street in response to another domestic dispute.

On Saturday, deputies responded to a residence in Coolville, after receiving a report of an active dispute between two adults. According to the caller, the dispute allegedly began when the man asked the woman to assist him with household tasks, and she “refused because she was playing video games.” The man then put the TV remote outside in an attempt to get the woman to “come out and help him,” and the woman responded by calling 911.

Before deputies arrived at the scene, however, the woman decided to take a shower, and the deputies could not get a written statement form her.

Slender Man Sighting

On Saturday, deputies were called to Spreading Oaks Village, a trailer park off Selby Road, in response to an alleged suspicious person sighting. The caller told deputies he saw a “slender man” walking through people’s yards dressed in dark clothing and wearing a headlamp, according to the police report.

When deputies searched the area, however, they were not able to find the individual, and contacted the original caller, who said they believed the subject had already left. Authorities continued to patrol the area and checked nearby roads, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Mobile Home Melodrama

The same day, deputies responded to a different trailer park in The Plains in response to a domestic dispute that had quickly escalated. According to the police report, the caller reported that when he attempted to leave the residence, his girlfriend became upset and “pulled a knife,” threatening to harm herself.

The woman then threatened to “burn the trailer with her inside it” if the man left her. Deputies arrived at the scene and contacted the woman, who was transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Valentine’s Day Scare Tactics

Early on Valentine’s Day, deputies were dispatched to an alleged active dispute in The Plains, having received a call from a man who reported he was being assaulted by his girlfriend. During the call, however, the man informed deputies that he was lying, and only called authorities “as a scare tactic.”

Regardless of the validity of the call, deputies went to the scene and attempted to contact the caller, only to find that nobody would answer the door. The responding officers announced their presence “several times,” informing the resident that if he did not answer the door, he would be charged with misuse of 911 due to the false call. The man didn't answer, and charges against him are possible, according to the police report.
