Women's Golf: Ohio begin season with eight-place finish at Florida tournament

Ohio opened the spring season with an eight-place finish at the two-day Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Bradenton, Florida.

The Bobcats came into the tournament as the No. 8 seed and faced three of the top four seeds after opening the tournament with a victory.

Ohio dominated their first match with a 5-0 victory over Bowling Green on Monday morning. Hailey Hrynewich and Nicole Smiley both won their matches by two strokes to lead the Bobcats.

But three straight losses followed the opening victory, including a loss to top-seeded, and eventual winner, Lamar. Emily Hughes picked up the only victory for Ohio, winning by one stroke.

The closest loss was followed with 3-1-1 loss to the seconded-seed Western Michigan. Lily Pendy picked up her second victory of the tournament with Hrynewich.

In the seventh-place match, Ohio fell to Eastern Michigan with its worst loss of the tournament. The 5-0 loss wasn't the way Ohio wanted to end their tournament.

Ohio’s next time on the course will be at the three-day Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Arizona, Feb. 24-26.
