Good Morning,

If you notice people walking around campus today with cross-shaped black markings on their foreheads, that’s because it’s Ash Wednesday.

Today, members of several Christian denominations will receive cross-shaped ashes to mark the beginning of Lent, a roughly 40-day period of observance, repentance and preparation for Easter. It also commemorates the 40 days Jesus Christ fasted in the desert.

While most people won’t spend 40 days in the desert during Lent, observers usually forego some earthly thing — like pop, or procrastinating — during the period.

Weather

It’ll be a rainy first day of March. It’ll be mostly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms and a high of 70 degrees. (Courtesy of Scalia Lab)
