Athens Police Department receives two reports of rape Wednesday

The Athens Police Department received two reports of rape Wednesday, bringing the total of sex-related crimes reported to the department this week to three.

Two women told an officer someone they knew raped them on the north end of Athens between November 2016 and February 2017, according to the APD report.

The women made the report at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to the police report. APD is investigating the incidents. The report includes no other information.

The Wednesday reports are the second and third reports of sex-related crimes to APD this week. A juvenile girl told an APD officer Monday that a male she knew sexually assaulted her Sunday night on the south side of Athens, according to a previous Post report.

APD previously received two reports of sexual assault near the beginning of spring break, according to a previous Post report. An 18-year-old woman said someone she knew sexually assaulted her on March 3, and a 21-year-old man said a man he didn’t know sexually assaulted him on March 6. The man and woman both said they were assaulted in Uptown Athens.

A woman also reported to the department that someone she knew raped her Feb 24.

The Ohio University Police Department has received six reports of rape since the beginning of the Spring Semester.

APD received 40 calls reporting incidents of rape during 2016, according to statistics the department released Tuesday in its annual report.
