Emmy nominations are out, ‘Westworld’ scores big nods for HBO

Even though HBO’s Game of Thrones didn’t make the cut for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, the network garnered plenty of nominations for its shows.

Leading the pack was Westworld, which picked up a whopping 22 nominations — five of which are in the major categories — including Best Drama Series.

NBC’s new hit drama This is Us managed four acting nods for Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Ron Cephas Jones. The show is also up for Best Drama Series.

The Best Drama Series category could be a tight race with its mix of newcomers and previously nominated series, including the Netflix’s Golden Globe-winning series The Crown.

Viola Davis was nominated again for her role in ABC’s crime and law series How to Get Away With Murder. Davis was the first black actress to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Stephen Colbert will host the 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 17, which will be broadcast on CBS.
