Five things to do when you're broke in Athens

It's not typical to be low on money in college. Students pay for tuition, books, rent and, of course, a bustling social life.

Sorry, mom.

You may wonder what one does when there is next to nothing in your bank account, so I decided to let you know. Here are five things to do when you need to save some money:

1. Eat a ton of sandwiches

Bread, lunch meat and cheese are all relatively cheap. Peanut butter and jelly is cheap. Sandwiches for every meal, why not?

2. Stare wistfully out the window

All your friends are out having a good time on Court Street, and you don’t even have the money for 50-cent draft night at Pawpurrs. So you just stare out the window, dreaming about the times you could have.

3. Go to Ping

Working out is good for you, no matter how much money you have. Plus, it helps keep the continuous sense of hunger out of your thoughts, even if for just an hour.

4. Watch Netflix

You already paid the $7.99 this month, so you might as well watch The Office again for the fifth time.

5. Take a walk

Take a walk up to Court Street late at night to see all the sights. Watch people stumble out of the bars and head over to get some chicken and waffles from Uptown Grill, and think about how nice that would be — only if you had money.
