After the news this week from Las Vegas and Puerto Rico, you’re probably needing some fun news. Here are a few stories to brighten your week.
New Zealand’s number one cop
We’re used to seeing pups out on the job as cops. But in New Zealand, a cat named Tia has taken on the job, Mashable reported.
Tia works for the Wellington District Police, and she’s pretty helpful.
"She's also pretty good at admin, paperwork and the odd bit of light typing. But her favourite thing is nap time," a police spokesperson told the New Zealand Herald.
Tia also has a pal, Snickers.
Burglar makes clean getaway
The Associated Press reported Thursday that a burglar emptied the cash register at Nelly’s Taqueria in Hicksville, New York. Before he left, however, he decided he needed a nice meal before leaving.
“Security video showed the intruder put on food-service gloves and started heating up a pot before hammering the register open,” AP reported. “He pocketed the money and put a dollar in the tip jar.”
Apparently the same man was there the night before as well.
Santa Claus is real
Archaeologists in southern Turkey think they discovered the tomb of Santa.
“Saint Nicholas of Myra (now Demre) was known for his anonymous gift-giving and generosity,” the Chicago Tribune reported. “People believed he'd put coins in the shoes of anyone who left them out for him on his feast day, Dec. 6.”
The Chicago Tribune reported that Santa was a monk who gave away his inheritance to those who needed it.
So next time you call him a fake, you better think twice.
