Harvey Weinstein fired amidst numerous sexaul assault allegations
After an investigation by the New York Times, production executive and Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been fired by his company after a series of sexual assault accusations. He served as the company’s co-chair with his brother, Bob.
Throughout the past week, numerous high-profile actresses including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow admitted to being sexually assaulted or harassed by Weinstein. Paltrow told the Los Angeles Times that Weinstein “placed his hands on her and suggested they go to the bedroom for massages.”
Other media figures said Weinstein’s actions were known by many for a long time. CNN anchor Jake Tapper tweeted that a Hollywood producer called Weinstein’s behavior “one of the most open secrets in Hollywood.”
Cub Scouts will start admitting girls
Beginning next year, girls will be able to join Cub Scouts.
According to CBS, The Boy Scouts of America will establish a new program restructuring Cub Scout units. With the new policy, genders will remain separated in smaller units, while larger units will have the option to integrate boys and girls. In recent years, the BSA has also allowed openly gay members and transgender boys in the organization.
The restructuring wasn’t received warmly by the Girl Scouts of America. The organization stated, “Only the Girl Scouts has the expertise to give girls and young women the tools they need for success."
Chief BSA executive Michael Surbaugh said there will be a ban on mixed-gender overnight outings.
Indians drop Game 5 to Yankees, kiss World Series berth goodbye
Looks like the Cleveland Indians won’t be returning to the World Series.
The Indians were eliminated from the MLB Playoffs following a 5-2 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
Indians pitcher Corey Kluber allowed 3 runs in the first 3 innings, and the Yankees would maintain the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Indians previously set the American League record for most consecutive wins after winning 22 games in a row during the summer.
Jemele Hill suspended by ESPN following controversial tweets
ESPN has suspended host Jemele Hill for two weeks following comments made on social media in response to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ comments about player protests.
Hill tweeted on Sunday, stating that people “stop watching and buying their (the Cowboy’s) merchandise.” Jones had previously said that any of his players who “disrespect the flag” would be benched.
ESPN said in a statement that Hill was suspended for violating their social media policies for a second time. In September, Hill was issued a warning by ESPN after sending a series tweets suggesting that President Donald Trump is a white supremacist.
